Lucas Buchler, MDOrthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Buchler is an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine surgeon at Northwestern Medical Group/Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. His clinical interests include complex knee surgery, cartilage restoration, and shoulder and elbow surgery, specifically injuries in throwing athletes. Dr. Buchler sees a wide variety of patients clinically and is committed to helping his patients maintain an active lifestyle. Dr. Buchler is an assistant team physician for the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball Club.
Dr. Buchler is actively involved with education at Northwestern through the Orthopaedic Surgery Sports Medicine Fellowship and as associate program director for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency. He completed the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation program at Northwestern and works with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery to grow its clinical research infrastructure and better track clinical outcome data. Dr. Buchler has a personal interest in wellness – individual, organizational, and community – and is member of Northwestern’s Scholars of Wellness and Physician Well-Being Council. He is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Association’s Emerging Leaders Forum and serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
Dr. Buchler is originally from Dyer, Indiana and completed his undergraduate studies at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He attended medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine and then completed his residency training at Northwestern University. Upon completion of his residency, he sought additional sub-specialty training in orthopaedic sports medicine surgery at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic – Denver. While in Denver, he served as the team physician for Mullen High School and as assistant team physician for the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.
Dr. Buchler resides in the North Suburbs with his wife, Katie, two daughters, Charlotte and Evie, son, Finley, their Black Lab, Reagan, and their German Shorthair Pointer, Rebel. They enjoy an active lifestyle full of golf, tennis, hiking, Chicago sports, and spending time with family and friends throughout the area.
